We will provide the hot grill. Please bring cold drinks, food for the grill, whatever you want to eat or drink. Rain or shine! Hot or cool!

ABOUT THE CANDIDATE:

What is the American Experiment? The American Experiment– the 1st empire where authority was transferred from the one to the many– is a conditional belief in the distribution of power to all citizens in the populace. This experiment is highly dependent upon the spiritual, moral and rational fabric of the people possessing this power. The founders handing over this responsibility did not flippantly and naively hand over this blazing torch of government into our hands believing that we would never carelessly drop the burning censer or let it go out; rather, in faith they entrusted to us a Republic that we may maintain if we maintain ourselves in the land. How could they trust us with such a responsibility?

This leaves us with a dilemma: a government highly dependent upon the moral activity of its people cannot in turn create this kind of people. The only thing men that serve in this kind of government cando is restrain lawbreakers or the government itself. What can Mark Opheim do as a representative to the State of Missouri to serve the people of Missouri without destroying the very Experiment that is laid out before us?

Yours,

Mark Robert Opheim

Our WashU CoOp political events series continues, at the privately owned WashU CoOp affliated house, Cervantes Co-op House, to finesse our neutrality policy. Our house may or may not endorse Mark, and even if we do, our endorsement in no way implies WashU or WashU CoOp endorsement. His opponents will be invited in subsequent weeks. We will probably do this every other week this summer, or perhaps more freqnently.

Here is a list of the seven candidates for the office, including four Democrats, two Republicans, and one Constitutionalist. It is good for our democracy to have a contested election!

In Summer 06 we hosted Jeff Smith, and in Summer 08 we hosted Mike Roberts, with the same understanding.
