Hey everyone. I mentioned earlier that I would try to arrange a field trip to see Tyson's new completely sustainable building, the Living Learning Center. I talked to the directors at Tyson, and they said the best opportunity for this would be to attend one of our weekly ecology seminars. Each week, Tyson hosts a guest ecologist who gives a talk starting around 4 pm. The talk now takes place in the classroom of the Living Learning Center, giving attendees the chance to see the inside of one of the most sustainable buildings in the country. The lecture usually goes until about 5:30, at which point the Tyson staff serves a free barbecue, with low carbon bison burgers and veggie burgers. People usually stick around to socialize until around 7 pm/ All of you are invited to attend the lecture and the barbecue. I would ask that you attend the lecture if you'd like to take food, so not to be rude. However, if you cannot make it out to Tyson by 4 pm due to other obligations, I encourage you to come afterwards to see the Living Learning Center. I will happily give tours. Tyson's address is 6750 Tyson Valley Road, Eureka MO 63025. Driving directions from the Wash U Co-op are included below: Driving directions to 6750 Tyson Valley Rd, Eureka, MO 63025 6021 Pershing Ave 6750 Tyson Valley Rd ***************************************************** We are pleased to announce that this week's Tyson speaker will be Dr. Scott Collins of the University of New Mexico). He will be giving a talk entitled: "Global change impacts on Chihuahuan desert ecosystems" Scott is a world renowned plant community ecologist, director of the Sevilleta Long Term Ecological Research site, and former NSF program director for long-term studies in Environmental Biology (http://temperate.lternet.edu/collins/). We are very honored to have Scott give this presentation as part of his visit to Tyson to help advise us on our own long-term research initiatives. Thursday talks will continue to be in our new Living Learning Center (right next to the Tyson headquarters) at 4PM followed by a BBQ featuring locally farmed bison burgers, vegetarian options, and Schlafly Beer, Claverach wine, and some sides from our own organic garden. However, please feel free to bring your own side/dessert to share. [Reposted from a message sent by Adam Hasz] | |
